A Mid-Autumn Festival Gospel Message
Extract from Liu Yun Fang Zhou’s sharing 22 September 2024
“The moon dims or shines, and it waxes and wanes again and again.” This is human thought. The moon itself does not change. It rotates and orbits around the Earth. Therefore, what we see through the naked eye may not be the true nature of things. Nonetheless, the truth exists.
In Genesis, God tells us that He made heavens and earth in the beginning. God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God called the light “day,” and the darkness “night”. And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years”. Then God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” Thus, the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Psalm 148 says, “Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.”
From these, we know that neither the sun nor the moon is God, but their Maker is. God is the Creator who made all things. If we look at the beautiful Mid-Autumn moon and all we can see is the moon, we miss the great revelation of nature and life!
The full moon often reminds us of the regretful fact that there is more parting than gathering in life. When we are young, we hope to grow up quickly to roam afar; when we grow up, we exchange family time for a career; when we grow old, our children leave us and roam afar. As Psalm 90 says, “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.” (Ps 90:10). Indeed, reunion often ends with regrets because where there is gathering there is dissension.
But thanks be to God! These regrets are not the end of life but the result of denying God and living sinfully.
“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
Jesus the Nazarene hung on the cross on Cavalry is the Son of God! He died bearing the sin of the world. But he rose from the dead and overcame death for us! God will forgive the sins of all who believe in him. He made them a new creation in Christ. No longer will they feel lonely and helpless because even though they will die, they will resurrect like their living God and live forever! Dear friends, it is our earnest wish that you and your beloved family will come and discover this road to eternal life, put your trust in Jesus, and enter the world without end where you can enjoy life without sin, death or pain but an everlasting reunion and joyful worship of the living God!
